NARS: Night Series Nail Polishes!

Can't wait to try on these nail polishes after I got them from kissandmakeupny.com!! So here are the swatches:

Night Flight is a shimmery dark blue. It looks almost like a black base with very fine blue shimmers scatter all over. Beautiful!

It's like I'm having Sapphires on my nails! *hearts*

The formula is great! Since I always prefer doing thinner coats, I need two for it to look perfect.

Definitely going to be one of my favourite nail polishes! I know I know, I've said the same to many of my other nail polishes, but this, I really really like! Really!!

Okay, move on to the second Night Series Nail Polish that I own, Night Rider.

Night Rider has a jelly formula to it. It is a light pinkish purple, something like a lilac.

As you can see, Night Rider is quite sheer. I've done two coats, but it'll definitely look better with an extra coat. I was just too lazy :P

I always finish my nail application with a topcoat. But for you lazybums out there, I must stress that both Night Flight and Night Rider need topcoats to acquire that fresh-looking-nail-salon-finish! It's a must!! Kappish?

NARS Night Series Collection have four different shades: Night Flight, Night Rider, Night Breeder and Night Porter. I've seen swatches of all of them and they are really amazing. Not to mention that these are limited edition! So grab them while they are still available!!

Blows kisses,
Charlotte

Ever heard of Heel Condoms?

Hey girls, what comes to your mind first when you heard of 'Heel Condoms'?

In my case, I thought it to be something like a shoe/heel protector. Since condom is some sort of a protective thingy. Lol! I imagined it to be like a raincoat for your shoes to prevent them from getting wet and dirty during rainy days or while you're walking at a muddy place. Something like this:

But I was wrong! It is actually something much more sophisticated than it sounds! It is able to transform the pair of plain simple heels that you own into something as pretty as this!

Source: theheelcondoms.com

Interested? Visit www.theheelcondoms.com!

Pretty pretty pretty!!

You've gotta give a thumbs up to Miss Sandrysabel Ortiz for this brilliant idea! Come to think of it, you don't only get to 'dress up' your heels, it actually does saves space; it's like you get to own 10 pairs of heels without having 10 shoeboxes stacking up, if that makes any sense (?).

Will I buy it? Yes and no. Yes, if I've finally found a perfect and comfortable pair of plain heels which I can't live without! No, cause the price of these condoms (LOL) are not cheap; with that money, you can buy another pair of heels! But do check on their website often, if these beauties are on sale, I'd say it's quite a good deal. And the good thing is, they do ship to Malaysia :)

What's your verdict? Take it or leave it?

Love,
Charlotte

Haul and kissandmakeupNY.com Shopping Experience!!

KissandmakeupNY.com is a New York based online retail store and it provides a wide range of brands such as NARS, Smashbox, Beauty Blender, Kiehl's, Laura Mercier, Butter LONDON et cetera.

There are two shipping options available: with or without insurance, which are USD14.95 and USD9.95 respectively. Both shipping methods are flat shipping rates.

Frankly speaking, I was more than relieved when this parcel arrived at my doorstep. Reason being when I went to google this online retail store up, there were quite a handful of negative reviews, some even said that they waited bout 50days and still didn't receive their items. In the end, they have to dispute their charges with Paypal. However, these negative reviews were quite backdated. So, I narrowed down my search and the recent reviews turned out to be fairly acceptable. I even emailed them personally to enquire about their shipping policies and I received their replies within 24 hours. Having gone through all that, I figured it'll be alright to place my order. Upon placing my order, I wrote an extra note saying that I wished to have my items bubble-wrapped.

Two days later I received an email stating that my items have been shipped and about ten days after that the parcel has arrived safely. And my items were being wrapped properly just as I've requested. It is always nice to know that the seller take your requests seriously, even though it is something as minor as that :)

The only downside is that they do not accept any returns or exchanges. The sales are final. That is also why I requested my items to be bubble-wrapped, just in case the items were to break during delivery or whatnot.

So, enough of my shopping experience. Time to see what's inside the parcel:
*gasp* excited!!

  • Beauty Blender's Blender Sponge and Cleanser Kit
  • Laura Mercier's Tightline Cake Eye Liner
  • NARS Nail Polish in Galion, Night Flight and Night Rider
  • NARS Bronzing Powder in Laguna
  • NARS The Multiple in Orgasm
Jealous not? :P

[Review] butter LONDON: The Old Bill

This is not my first bottle of Butter LONDON nail lacquer but since this is the my first BL post, I shall give a brief overview of what I think of this brand. BL was found back in 2005. Despite being new to the nail industry, it has become the all time favourite nail polish brand for most beauty bloggers. Besides having a wide range of crazy colours, it is also known for its 3 free formula: free of DBP (Dibutyl Phthalate), Formaldehyde and Toluene also known as the big three toxic chemicals. I shall do a separate blog post on this issue.

Unlike the normal nail polishes, BL's packaging is squarish which makes it easy to be identified.

The picture shown below is the new packaging. The old packaging has the brush attached to the square top. I can imagine the hassle applying nail polish with that bulky squarish holder, thank god they changed the packaging :)

I don't like the brush, it is small and I find it quite hard to apply. I prefer brushes like OPIs' which is able to give an even coverage with just 3 strokes.
This is the main reason why I don't own much BL nail polishes. Will only buy them if I really like the colour and I can't find any similar ones from OPI or China Glaze.

I love this color.
BL describes The Old Bill as Burnished Copper with a beautiful antique patina.
Irl, this color looks more like a rose gold to me which is not quite the same as the one shown in the picture. It has a pink undertone to it.

The application was quite messy. Like most metallic shades, it is very streaky but not too bad.
Two coats and you're good to go!

I consider this to be a neutral shade. Hence, it compliments any skintone.
The shimmery finish makes it extra special.
Love this!

Cheers,
Charlotte

[Review] Urban Decay: 15-year Anniversary Eyeshadow Collection

This might not be news to most of you girls, some might even hug it to sleep every night already! But I'm so excited about this palette I just have to share it with you people! :)

The moment I found out that UD is releasing this palette to celebrate their 15th year anniversary, I knew I have to get my hands on this. Especially after knowing that the shades in this palette are completely brand new! If you don't already know yet, UD has this pesky habit of reusing their existing eyeshadows in different palettes.

Reason why I'm only posting this up now is because I couldn't buy this baby in Australia. Have to beg my sister to get it for me from Sephora Malaysia. So a BIG hug and thanks to my sister and my dad of course, for driving her there just to get this for me.*HUGGSS* And I was so happy to find it sitting prettily on my table the moment I reach home (Yes, I'm back in Malaysia now, for holidays!)

OK, enough of grandmother story from me, back to the palette, shall we?

Now, take a deep breath! This post is gonna be a picture heavy post!
********************JENG JENG JENG JENG~!!!********************

The packaging is so dam bloody pretty!! Elegant, classy and girly!!

Love the bejeweled UD initials on the cover

*gasp* the detailed design on the side PWEEETEE!

The eyeshadow palette is placed inside this velvety box which is quite similar to the box frame thingy from the UD NAKED Palette. But the difference being, the NAKED one's is not as solid as this. So, please don't throw this away, you can re-use it! I use it to store the accessories and jeweleries that I often wear. Though I don't have a vanity table at home, but this will definitely look pretty sitting on one. However, the thought that it will collect dusts kinda bothers me. If I'm lazy to clean it, I'll prolly just dispose it.

The back cover of the packaging. Don't really need this, since the names of the eyeshadows are already labelled inside the palette.

The top cover of the palette has a mirror. Mine looks blurry because I haven't peel off the protective layer thingy yet.

And Tadah!
15 brand new colors! As you can see most of them are frosty and shimmery!
Perfect for the holiday season!

There is also a secret compartment in this palette. Sneaky UD!
Simply use the tip of your nails to pick up this layer.

And you'll get another velvety frame like thingy.
I find this to be quite pointless actually, not very sure of the purpose of having this secret compartment. If you were to seperate the palette from this layer, the palette will be left unprotected as the top cover will not be able to lock the palette tightly.
I don't know if this make any sense to you (?). Lawls.

Now, move on to the swatches!
Fyi, this my first time posting up eyeshadow swatches, sorry if its not perfect.

[L-R]: Half Truth, Blackout, Ace, M.I.A., Deeper
Half Truth
It's metalic purple irl, the picture doesn't do this colour justice. It is a pretty purple with a hint of grey, and a smokey shimmery effect.
Blackout
Matte, dark black.
Ace
Ace alone looks like a smokey black. But swatching it beside Blackout, it looks more like a grey with slight shimmers.
M.I.A.
The finish is the same as Ace, but instead of black/grey, it is a dark brown.
Deeper
Dark coppery brown. Or rather bronze with gold shimmers.

[L-R]: Chase, Flow, Vanilla, Midnight 15, Midnight Rodeo
I think this is the worst set of swatches out of all three. Sorreehhh!!
Chase
A lighter version of Deeper
Flow
Peach with gold shimmers.
Vanilla
Champagne gold with shimmers.
Midnight 15
Champagne silver with shimmers. Flow, Vanilla and Midnight 15 will look really pretty on the inner eyelids or the tear duct area. Brighten up the eyes instantly!
Midnight Rodeo
Dark brown with heavy glitters. Do expect a lot of fall outs while applying. Reminds me of Sidecar from the NAKED palette.

[L-R]: Deep End, Evidence, Omen, Junkshow, Tainted
Deep End
Shimmery teal/turquoise.
Evidence
Dark royal blue with slight shimmers.
Omen
Lilac with silver shimmers.
Junkshow
It looks more like a hot pink rather than red irl. Least favourite colour in the palette! Not a wearable colour in my opinion.
Tainted
Soft pink with gold shimmers.

Note: Swatches are done without eyeshadow primer.

Pros
  • Like the other UD eyeshadows, they are all really pigmented!
  • A great deal! I paid RM180 for this palette which then narrows down to RM12 per colour!
  • The colours are pretty wearable for creating an everyday look (except Junkshow of course!)
  • Exquisite packaging. Instantly add a hint of elegance to your vanity table :)
  • It is available in Sephora Malaysia! But I'm not sure if it is sold out already or if they are going to stock it up.
Cons
  • The only bad thing: you will have finger prints printing all over your palette. That really annoys me. I have to wipe it almost after every time I touched it. Ish!
Overall, a great palette! So, whatcha waiting for? BUY BUY BUY!! :D

Love,
Charlotte

Me? A Winner? Finally!

For the past years, I've joined many giveaways, and I've never won anything. EVER. URGH!! It's annoying especially when you really want them so badly. Sometimes even though you know that you're not lucky enough to be chosen as a winner, but deep down inside you'll still have that teeny weeny hope that it'll be you. Right right?

But, I've finally won a giveaway!! First time everrrr! I was so excited when they announced that the winner is me! At first I was quite doubtful, then I went to double checked and re-confirmed it with them. And it's really meeee!! Hahahahhaha..

Source: belledemoiselle.wordpress.com

By the way, the giveaway was from Belle Demoiselle. You guys should stop by their blog. Their reviews are honest and precise. The only thing lacking is swatches, but I think they're working on that now as many readers have suggested them to do so. I find myself unconsciously visiting their blog everyday to check for new posts o.o

Anyway back to my giveaway. Wahahaha! They are quite generous. The items that I've won are:
  • Body Lotion from TLC
  • Travel Sized Hair Styling Cream from Lucidol x 2
  • Shimmer Powder/ Highlighter in Rose Pearl from Estee Lauder
  • Pure Pops Lip Gloss in Pink Cupcake from Estee Lauder
  • Penultimate Brow Marker in Brown from MAC
  • Retractable Brush from Estee Lauder
  • Mini Hand Food from Soap & Glory
Jealous not? Ngek ngek ngek~ Winning this giveaway is such a confident boost for me, in a sense where I know that I stand a chance even if the chances are low. Definitely going to join more giveaways in the future, and you should do so too! Free things are always fun!

Love,
Charlotte

China Glaze: For Audrey

Wooohooo! My finals is finally over! Can't wait to go back Malaysia and gobble up all the food that I've been craving for the past 4months! muahahahhaha...

OK putting my excitement aside, I wanna share another awesome nail polish with you guys!

For Audrey was released back in 2007. It is definitely a brilliant tribute to Audrey Hepburn.

Gorgeous.

If this shade looks familiar to you, its because it is Tiffany Blue. China Glaze somehow managed to use Tiffany's trademarked blue. Hmm, I always wonder why did they name it Tiffany Blue when it is more of a turquoise. Well, to me at least.

After applying it on my nails, I thought it appears to be a bit more dusty than the Tiffany Blue. Sadly, I do not own any Tiffany & Co's items, if not I would have their signature box to compared to :(

The formula is great, opaque in just one coat. The swatches shown are one coat topped with Seche Vite's topcoat.

I absolutely love this colour, it is cute and gorgeous. Just like Audrey Hepburn herself.

Your verdict?

Love,
Charlotte

MAC: Miss Piggy Collection Sneak Peek!

In order to celebrate Disney's new movie: The Muppets, MAC is going to launch the Miss Piggy Collection! This collection consists of only three items. However, only one of them is new and will be a limited edition: the Miss Piggy Pink Eyeshadow.

  • Eyeshadow: Miss Piggy Pink
  • Penultimate Eyeliner: Rapid Black
  • Eyelashes: #36
This range of this collection is fairly small compared to the previous collections by MAC. But it's nice in a way where you get to own the whole set without burning a big hole in your purse!

Since the eyeliner and lashes are not something new, I'm really looking forward to the eyeshadow. I've seen the swatches of it, it has a sweet and romantic feel to it. Arghhh I want I want I want!!

Now, the bad news, it is only available online from maccosmetics.com starting November 14, 2011. They only ships to US and Canada. Not sure if this collection is available on the Australian or Malaysian website, do check it on November 14 to try your luck! *prays hard*

MAC is not the first brand that collaborates with The Muppets, OPI has a whole new holiday collection on it as well. I'm eyeing Meep Meep Meep and Wocka Wocka! Gonna get those two when I'm back in Malaysia to compensate my lust for Miss Piggy Pink Eyeshadow! Hmph!

My Love Hate Relationship with Mr. Microwave Oven

I admit that I'm a noob when it comes to electronic devices or anything techy. I'm always very afraid of them (even though i know that they are non-life-objects!) as they are usually expensive and I have a tendency to spoil them. The same goes for microwave ovens.

While microwave oven seems to be one of the must-haves in everyone's house, my very ulu mother STRONGLY disagrees on getting a microwave oven... ever! She thinks that it is radioactive and we will all die someday for being around it. Yes, dying by being around an oven! *raise single eyebrow*

As such, yours truly here have no idea on how to use an microwave oven. Fullstop and don't judge me!

Few years back, I was supposed to further my studies to Taiwan after my SPM (Note that the plan failed and more on that some other time). Since, my uncle is a PR of Taiwan, in order to save up on rents, staying with his family was a no brainer.

Both of my uncle and aunty are working, so most of the time when I have no class, I'm alone at home. There was this one time when I woke up, I realised that my aunt left me a box of fried rice with a note at the side asking me to microwave it and nom it up! She must have thought everyone knows how to use an oven and for some reasons it didn't cross my mind to call her up and ask for instructions! So stupid right?

So, I approached the oven, trying to figure it out. After I placed the fried rice on the tray of the oven, I have to adjust the time as to how long I want it to be heated. I thought the unit was in seconds, so very naturally 5 x 60seconds = 300 and since the display showed decimals, I decided to add another two zeros behind the 300 adding up to 30000. I happily left the oven thinking that I'm smart, hopping myself back to my room and continue watching my drama.

Dots.

After awhile, I smelled something burning. I was like OH SHIT! and rushed down to the kitchen. To my surprise, the whole area was smoking!!!!!! The first thing that came to my mind was to open up all the doors and windows BUT I forgot that I haven't unlock the alarm system and right after I lift open the first window the alarm started ringing. Adding on to my ganjeongness. The security started calling to check on the house. I told him everything was OK. Even the neighbours saw the smoke flowing out from my windows, but all they did was stood there and observe. If this house were to be seriously on fire, neighbours are useless!

The funniest part is when I opened the oven. I took out the tupperware wanting to throw the fried rice away. The fried rice turned into a piece of CHARCOAL!! hahahha, and I clearly heard that piece of shit hit the bottom of the dustbin. TONGGGGG!!

Ladies and gentlemen, that was my first encounter with Mr. Microwave Oven.

Years have passed, and I'm now furthering my studies in Australia. I've learnt how to use the oven properly (finally!). I start to love it for how convenient it is. Put your frozen food in, wait for the ting and your meal is ready.

And the love lasted until....

Today, I decided to heat up the coffee I bought just hours ago. Silly me, I forgot to remove that plastic cover on top of it and guess what? MY COFFEE EXPLODED IN THE OVEN!! FML!

I'm already behind schedule on my study plan, and I have to fork out another 30mins to clean up the oven with coffee spills. ISH!

Mr. Microwave Oven, I hate you, again!

Yours sincerely,
Charlotte, the Microwave Oven Noob.

China Glaze: Something Sweet

Oh em gee! I've finally found the perfect pale pink!! Been having no luck with OPI's Pandamonium Pink and Butter LONDON's Teddy Girl; they lose out in terms of opacity and formula but I'd say these three have the same pink tone, which is lovely.. !!

Like Peachy Keen and Re-Fresh Mint, Something Sweet is from the same collection: Up & Away!

The colour, like its name, is really something sweet. It's THE PERFECT pale pink ever! Opaque in two coats, if you're good with application, you can even get away with one. The formula is quite thick, do remember to leave time for your first layer to dry if you plan on doing two coats. My advice is: one thin layer then one thick layer.

This color might not suit every skintone. It might make your skin looks tanner.

BUT if you're a girly girl like moi, this is a must have! Shoooo Shweeeett!

I'd like to match this nail colour with a little black dress! *hearts* What say you?

Love,
Charlotte Goh

[Review] Laura Mercier: Flawless Skin Face Polish

Source: lauramercier.com

Before I started using Clarisonic (click here for the review), this face polish here was responsible for my facial exfoliation. I used up 1.5 tubes of it before writing this review. If you are wondering why 1.5 and not 2, that's because I left the remaining half tube in Malaysia, thanks to my forgetful-ness :(

Scent:
The first thing I noticed about this product is the scent! I love the smell, it reminds me of this:
Most Malaysians should be very familiar with this. Yes, it's the Vitamin C's we take when we were young! I remember how I always wanted more to the extent where my mom have to hide it. hahaha..

Texture:
It has a cream base with microbeads. The beads are not as rough as the normal facial scrubs. Whilst they're fine and mini, they do a great job.

How to use:
All you have to do is just gently scrub it against your face and you'll get a perfect result! Be careful not to scrub too hard, it might dry out your skin.

The amount needed for each application is fairly little. A little goes a long way. I used it once a week and the 3.5oz tube lasted for about 1.5 years.

The After Effect:
Immediately after using it, my skin looks more radiant and definitely brighter. It also leaves my face feeling soft and smooth. There's no greasiness after cleansing. My pores are free of blackheads as well. LOOOOVEEEE IT!

The Pros
  • Nice Scent
  • Really does a great job as an exfoliator
  • Reasonable price (refer to below for further explanation :P)
The Cons
  • Since it's a skincare product, do check the ingredients to make sure your skin is not allergic to any of them.
  • Some people might think that it's quite pricey. But here's what I think. After doing the maths, I'm paying RM1++ for each application and since it is good stuff, I don't think RM1 is a lot. So, for me the price should be under pros instead of cons.
  • I've heard people complaining that the beads are rough and they felt as though their skin has been rubbed by sandpaper! I strongly stronglyyyyyy disagree on that but again I think it varies according to individual. Get a sample from the SA before buying it!
Where to buy it
Any Laura Mercier Counter or Kens Apothecary

Price: MYR105

[FOOD] Sichuan House

*****This place is only for people with high tolerance for spicy food!*****

I'm a big fan of spicy food and been wanting to try this place for the longest time ever! Finally decided to pay a visit last week.

Eggplant

Fish

Beef Skewers

Price : Reasonable (plus minus 15bucks per person)
Food : Awesome Awesome Awesome (x10000 if you love spicy food as much as I do)
Environment : Normal, like most of the other Chinese restaurants in Melbourne

I've only tried the three dishes shown above, I'd have to say that they were all yummilicious! Spicyness is just a plus point for me, their food are also very flavourful, creating a perfect balance!
